In the bestselling tradition of THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB and THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB, three women find unexpected answers, happiness, and one another with Meryl Streep movies as their inspiration.

Two sisters and the cousin they grew up with after a tragedy are summoned home to their family matriarch's inn on the coast of Maine for a shocking announcement.  Suddenly, Isabel, June, and Kat are sharing the attic bedroom--and barely speaking.  But when innkeeper Lolly asks them to join her and the guests in the parlor for weekly Movie Night--it's Meryl Streep month--they find themselves sharing secrets, talking long into the night--and questioning everything they thought they knew about life, love, and one another.

Each woman sees her complicated life reflected through the magic of cinema:  Isabel's husband is having an affair, and an old pact may keep her from what she wants most . . . June has promised her seven-year-old son that she'll somehow find his father, who he's never known . . . and Kat is ambivalent about accepting her lifelong best friend's marriage proposal.  Through everything, Lolly has always been there for them, and now Isabel, June, Kat--and Meryl--must be there for her.  Finding themselves. Finding each other.  Finding a happy ending.

  1. Meryl Streep rocks, it's going to be tough choosing just the one film. *Goes off to ponder* Okay, I'm going to go with 'Sophie's Choice' because she acted her chops off and that film still haunts me and I refer to it as a phrase in it's own right, not often a movie impacts on me so heavily to lead me to do that : ) xx

  2. First, let me say that this book sounds like a terrific read. Perfect for hazy summer afternoons. It's really hard to pick a favorite movie of Meryl Streep's. The woman is amazingly talented. But I think the one that I find hilarious and have watched several times is "It's Complicated." Meryl, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin... Need I say more?

  3. I think this looks like such a good book! I'm a huge Meryl Streep fan and one of my faves is the sleeper hit HeartBurn.

  4. I love so many of Meryl Streep's movies, but she was phenomenal in The Devil Wears Prada! (Of course, she's phenomenal in all of her movies!)

  5. Thank you for this giveaway! I'm so looking forward to this book. Now...let's see...what Meryl movie is my favourite...I think I might agree with Lucie and say "It's Complicated" though I adored her in "Devil Wears Prada" and "Julie and Julia" as well! Need to go watch some of her older films ASAP!

  6. What a great question! So many excellent films to choose from. What doesn't Meryl Streep do well?

I think she was great in 'The Devil Wears Prada', but her understated eloquence and pain in 'Kramer versus Kramer' come back to me whenever I see her. Perfection!

  8. It's complicated, although devil wears prada comes to a close second. Love the sound of this book.

  9. Must agree with Lucie Simone: Alec and Steve and Meryl make for a fan-ta-stic movie. "It's Complicated" is by far my favorite Meryl film, although "Julie and Julia" is closely behind. Actually, anything and everything Meryl does floats my boat. I hope that when I'm her age I can look and be as graceful and fabulous! :)
