I
sure hope none of my family or friends notice I am participating in a food
post. Their laughter would be unkind. I don’t cook. I “present.” (I challenge any of Tracie’s fans to beat me
in the presentation category. I am pretty-pretty fancy about organizing a big
ol’ box of Costco-sized anything into a sumptuous pinwheel arrangement,
color-coded, or, if I’m feeling really foodie, in a checkerboard pattern. So
there.)
I
love recipes: reading recipes, collecting recipes, dreaming about making
recipes. However, I leave it to the pros. I do like to bake. Even though it’s
July, it’s never too early for Ginger Krinkles. They are different from other
cookies, and remind me of the best parts of holidays: the eating, ambiance, and
anticipation! (Ginger Krinkles also have
a good track record at cookie exchange contests, just saying.)
I
love the brown sugar-stained recipe card my mom typed out on an old Olivetti
typewriter hundreds of batches ago. And I love making Ginger Krinkles almost as
much as eating them! Almost.
Ginger Krinkles
2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Egg
4 Tablespoons Molasses
2 Cups Flour
2 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Ginger
—Additional 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar for dipping
Mix oil and sugar, add egg and beat. Stir in molasses.
Sift dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Drop spoonful of dough into
sugar and form balls. Bake at 350 degrees on ungreased cookie sheet for 10-15
minutes.

Those do sound good. I love this comment: (Fun fact: You can eat more Ginger Krinkles while reading on a kindle vs. paperback. I tend to eat more often when reading on my Kindle too.
