SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY - 2/19/12

Another Sunday, another six sentence snippet from my Oscar-themed novel, BLAME IT ON THE FAME!  This week's offering is an exchange between indie actress and Academy Award nominee Jordan Schaeffer and her mother, Lisa Merrin, the divalicious former Bond babe who already has her own gold statue.  Although Lisa's thrilled that her daughter is following in her illustrious footsteps by receiving an Oscar nod, she's not so thrilled that Jordan was nominated for a role in a depressing film where she played a burn victim who wasn't miraculously restored to her former beauty in the final act.

“Reality be damned!” Lisa proclaimed as she flung her two-thousand-dollar limited-edition Louis Vuitton handbag on to the couch.  “People want happy endings.  Look at the movie I won my Oscar for.  My character may have been a drug-addicted prostitute, but she helped Bobby DeNiro catch a serial killer and he fell in love with her.”

“Very romantic,” Jordan snarked.

“At least, I looked good in the movie, and before you make another snide comment, sparkly blue eye shadow and spandex hot pants were a valid fashion statement back in the ‘70s.”

    1. Thanks, Charmaine! Only in Hollywood is right. I don't think you'd ever hear a normal mother and daughter having this conversation! :)

  7. What great timing to promote this book, with the Oscars just around the corner. :) Do you watch all the Oscar-nominated films each year? Just curious. I try to, but so far I've only seen 4 this year.

    1. I do try to see as many of the Oscar-nominated films as I can every year. I think one of my faves this year was My Week With Marilyn. Although it wasn't nominated for Best Film, MWWM did receive some acting nods and I would love to see Michelle Williams take home the Best Actress statue (probably won't happen since Viola Davis and Meryl Streep are the favorites, but a girl can dream!)

    1. Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but Lisa and Jordan are based in small part on the dynamic between my mother and myself. She's always been very vivacious and extroverted while I'm the more cerebral type.
