GUEST POST - AUTHOR JENNA ANDERSON

I'm so pleased to have Jenna Anderson, author of Off Leash and Healing Touch, here on Books by Banister today.  All of you dog-lovers will love her post!

A Pooch Named Phoebe

Thank you for having me on your blog today, Tracie.  I’m always happy to hang out with other writers and readers.

I thought I’d talk a little bit about the inspiration for my latest release, Off Leash.  She’s a cute little doggie named Phoebe.  A purebred Bichon Frise - although this picture is showing her wilder side:

She was the first dog I ever owned.  My husband is deathly allergic to cats.  When we bought our first house we knew felines were out.  Actually, early on in our relationship, he secretly went in for allergy shots.  He planned to end the series of clinic visits with a trip to the pet store.  How sweet is that!?  Unfortunately, he ended up in the emergency room not once but twice!  Can you say super sweet!  Even after the first ER visit he was bound and determined to get over his cat allergies just so I could get one.

Awwwww.  Love that guy.

Back to Phoebe.  She is no longer with us, but I have fond memories of our time together. She loved to run laps around the couch, dig in the dirt, and sleep on her back with her legs twitching above her.  She could even read minds.  You think I’m kidding?  I swear she knew when I was thinking about going for a walk.  I wouldn’t flinch, look at the leash, or move a muscle.  All I had to do was think - walk - and BAM!  She’d be flying all over the house in a tizzy.

No one believed me or my husband when we told them, so we stopped telling them.  Until…my college-aged niece came to house and dog sit for us for a week.  We left her instructions on feeding, securing the house, etc.  All went well and we returned to an intact abode and happy pet.  She hesitated on her way out and my husband and I were a bit concerned.  She finally said, “You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I think Phoebe can read minds.”  We assured her she wasn’t crazy and that our dog was a very special little girl.

My latest title, Off Leash, is the story of a purebred pooch on her way to meet Charles the Conqueror - the ‘date’ all set and paid for.  Her owner, Candice, is hoping for a nice litter of puppies.  Things don’t go quite as planned.  Candice gets lost in the Indiana countryside and Phoebe decides to go - off leash.  There isn’t any mindreading in this story - just a lost city gal, a cute farmer, and a mangy mutt named Jack who is in the right place at the right time.

Thanks again for having me, Tracie.

I'm a fulltime mom, wife, sister, & friend.  Throw in a little housework and the need to watch every episode of Forensic Files & I guess you could call me a busy woman.  There are just not enough hours in the day.  My escape is writing.  I hope you enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.
